Survey Bridges Aesthetic Treatments and Self-Confidence

A Merz survey of patients around the world, including Canada, set out to discover how aesthetics can do more than enhance our appearance. It found that a majority of respondents conveyed a positive connection between the impact of aesthetic treatments on their emotional well-being.
The survey results support what most us recognize in our practices, that even subtle changes in a person’s physical appearance can influence how they feel about themselves. “Innovations in aesthetic medicine are delivering natural-looking results that are enhancing more than just appearances, they’re boosting confidence, too,” the survey report states.
62% of people surveyed seek aesthetic treatments to reflect how they feel inside. And 68% of people feel aesthetic treatments impact how they view themselves.
It's informative to see how the survey attaches numbers to the notion that the attraction of aesthetic medicine, while still in demand for improving appearances, is more than skin deep.
A fascinating finding in the Merz report also showed how the bridge between aesthetic treatments and self-confidence goes both ways.
The confidence that people carry speaks to the overall health benefits of positive mental health, before and after aesthetic treatments. People who already feel good about themselves are more likely to come to us for beauty enhancements. They then feel even more confident after receiving those chosen aesthetic treatments.
Managing the aging process (72 percent) and a desire to look younger (66 percent) were cited as factors that influence undergoing aesthetic treatments. Many respondents agreed that aesthetic procedures impact how they view themselves (68 percent) and how confident they feel in social situations (65 percent).
On the flip side, a person lacking in self-confidence might not initially see the sense in getting aesthetic treatments. “It’s not going to work for me,” they might say. But the survey shows that outside influences can have an impact on a decision to seek treatments. The positive aging results will then boost their previously lagging self-confidence.
More and more people are beginning to understand that, the Merz report points out. Conversations around aesthetic choices are evolving and treatments are increasingly becoming part of regular beauty and self-care routines.
Providers should understand the power of their own social media to attract customers and influence decisions. Earn trust by presenting your professionalism publicly. Have a mission and vision that speak to what the patient wants, including their desire to look good and feel better. Provide real credentials and actual evidence of your skills. Merz Aesthetics, which produces neuromodulator Xeomin, and fillers Radiesse and Belotero, analyzed the perspectives of 15,000 adults between the ages of 21 to 75 who have previously had an aesthetic treatment or considering a procedure, with 75 percent of participants who identified as female.
