Patient-Models Play Important Role in Training

Participants in our Course 3: Hands-on Mentoring are urged to supply their own models for training purposes. There are several good and beneficial reasons why.

The models will act as patients and receive actual injections of neurotoxins and dermal fillers in Course 3 on the Hands-on Mentoring. Models should know that course participants will have received 12 hours of classroom time and trained first on mannequins. All live procedures are closely monitored by experienced mentors.  Just as in an actual practice, the safety and well-being of patients are absolute priorities.

Familiarity with the model is fundamentally beneficial to the practitioner-in-training

As medical professionals, most practitioners will already know how to use a needle. The training in this course will focus on where and how to inject treatment products such as Botox®, Belkyra and Juvederm. The mentors will also train participants on how to use a cannula for expansive and more efficient treatments.

It’s advised that participants find volunteers they are conversant and comfortable with. Like friends or family members, for example. That familiarity will make it easier to follow and analyze the results of the treatments. For taking the time to generously help out during this training session, the models will receive medical aesthetics services at no cost.

Here are some key issues to consider when selecting these valued training assistants.

Models must:

  • Be suitable candidates for injection treatments
  • Provide medical history
  • Discontinue use of blood-thinning products five days prior to the training appointment. That also includes aspirin, anti-inflammatories, vitamin E and herbal supplements.
  • Be free of cold sores for at least two weeks

Models must not:

  • Be pregnant or breast feeding
  • Be allergic to Lidocaine
  • Have a known neuromuscular disease (such as ALS)

Participants will want to provide at least two and as many as four models for the Hands-on Mentoring course. Training will involve a number of different procedures. If you cannot find anyone to assist in training, that’s not a problem. THMA Consulting will arrange for a model to attend the class at no extra cost. But again, it is strongly encouraged – and more beneficial – for participants to select their own models.

THMA Consulting will schedule dates and times for models to arrive at the training centre. Both the participant and models will return after two weeks for a full assessment of the treatment results. That time will also be used for an informed discussion on where and why additional treatments on some patients might be required.

Participants should remember to bring a camera or electronic device to record before-and-after treatment photos.
