Lips Workshop Puts Art and Science in Harmony

A cookie-cutter approach to lip enhancements does not serve patients well. Our new training workshop puts a professional focus on distinct needs, proper procedures and patient safety.

The Art and Science of Lip Enhancements: Creating Harmony and Balance in Youthful and Aging Lips

I’m barely exaggerating to say there are a thousand-and-one different methods for injecting lips. It’s true. It’s also a fact that no singular technique is good for all patients.

Too often that’s the case with lip treatments. People are taught to inject, make the lips fuller, and call it a day.

That’s simply not good enough. It’s actually a great disservice to the patient. And it’s potentially dangerous.

“Our patients deserve more from us than just puffy lips!” – Nancy Sawlor RN

Our advanced workshop on the Art and Science of Lip Enhancements will raise the bar on these ever-popular treatments. The full-day workshop combines didactic education with hands-on training to give participants the confidence to create harmony and balance for youthful and aging lips.

Mastering the art and science of lip enhancements.

Nancy Sawlor and Jerica Barry are nurse injectors who completed this workshop. They received a full gamut of education that provides them with all the knowledge a good medical aesthetics provider should have ready when a patient comes through the door for a lip enhancement.

“The more knowledge you have the better prepared you are to treat your patient effectively and safely,”  Nancy said after her hands-on training. “This advanced course will help us give our patients better options for treatments and much better results.”

So much more than just making lips puffy.

The THMA workshop includes examining the use of needle and cannula injections, perioral anatomy and supporting structures, and the differences between youthful lips and aging lips.

Trainees learn how to do thorough assessment of medical and dental histories. An understanding of what the patient really wants will inform decisions on whether to restructure, recontour or provide volume in the right part of the lip.

All of these important things need to be factored in to make proper judgement on treatment and minimizing risk of complication or adverse effects.

“Patient safety is 100% the most important issue,” said Jerica. “No two lips are the same, so each patient needs a tailored technique that takes into account goals and desires, their age, the lip anatomy, asymmetry and so on.”

“This training has definitely given me more confidence to do lip enhancements that are best for my patients.”

In-depth presentations prepare participants for injecting.

Research-based, thorough and comprehensive, the Art and Science of Lip Enhancements workshop came about because of feedback from medical professionals like Nancy and Jerica. Many nurses and physicians urged us to set up an advanced course in lip enhancements, recognizing that these treatments are not ‘cookie cutter’ procedures.

We’ve been pleased to oblige. After meticulously developing the training, the workshop was launched in 2022.

Workshops in the Art and Science of Lip Enhancements will be offered in  most THMA training centres in Ontario and across Canada. “You have to know your anatomy, of course. And assessments are also very important. “Anybody can put a filler in someone’s lips, but it’s the knowledge you have and your ability to see what needs to be done that will produce desirable results,” says trainer Gina Maalouf.

From in-depth didactic presentations to expert one-on-one injection training with patients, the five primary components of the Art and Science of Lip Enhancements workshop will be:

  1. In-depth understanding of the perioral anatomy.
  2. Assessment skills for safe effective procedure (with differentiation on youthful and aging lip).
  3. Injection techniques for best practice outcomes.
  4. Treatment protocols and patient precautions.
  5. Potential adverse events and minimalization of risks.

Dates and times will be posted on our website and social media. Workshop participants will also receive a detailed study guide and research articles. As always, THMA Consulting members can Contact Us anytime with questions or problems.

For a last word in this Blog on the comprehensive workshop for Lip Enhancements, here’s Nancy and Jerica on what the training has meant to them and the smile it will bring to patients.

“I think patients will be reassured that they are going to someone who is thoroughly trained,” Nancy says. “Not just in the actual techniques, but also in how to help them attain goals effectively and safely.”

“I don’t know if there’s any advanced course out there like this one.” Jerica says. “But I would definitely recommend taking this workshop with THMA Consulting.”
